Thinking of sending my rugs off to be repaired but some have major big rips in are they likely to be repairable? Half the rug is ripped down the middle and have few straps missing.

Haven't sent them off before but mine seem to be demons this year for ripping rugs.

ring around a few places and ask for some quotes. Then you can weigh up whether it's worth getting the fixed or dumping them and hitting ebay for some bargain rug purchasing...

you can get some right cheapies out there now!

Depends how expensive the rug was in the first place - I've had turn out rugs repaired where they have cost around £15 to have a split from withers to base of rug sewn up, It also cost me £5 to have a front strap put on.

I see it as a good investment on an expensive rug - the one with the really good rip was a FAL so well worth repairing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks will ring around and get some quotes. I paid between £80-£100 for each of the two rugs which have been destroyed in the same way. Dont really know what he does to them but they always get ripped in the same place.

If i can get them repaired for about £15 then will go ahead as will be cheaper than replacing them again, especially as he is likely to do it again.

If you do decide to bin them, cut off all the undamaged outer material first. I did this with an old rug and then used it to patch my others when required. Took a while as I hand stitched it, but is ok when sat in front of the telly on a winter evening when you can't do much else!!

Much cheaper than constantly having to send them to someone else and its amazing what you can repair yourslf if you really have a go!! None of mine have had to go away to be repaired this year and I've saved time, money and rugs!!

ETA buy a cheap lightweight on over expensive rugs and let them rip those instead. Repair yourself or if too far gone, easy and cheap to replace!! I did this when we shared a field with a rug tearer!

any good at sewing urself? i've repaired a couple of my rugs quite nicely and i;m not that fab at sewing, jst desperately trying to save money. as a precaution i re-proofed after and had no bother at all!

Will have to get the damaged rugs out the garage tomorrow and have a good look at them. I can sew so will see which ones i could repair myself least that will save me some money.

Tennessee: I hadnt thought about using very badly damaged rug material to fix other rugs. Luckily i havent yet chucked any rugs out they have just been boxed up in the garage for a year so should be able to use some the material to patch up old ones. Could also use some the straps for the ones im missing.

Strangely enough his is in his lightweight at the moment with quilt underneath and he hasnt yet ripped it *touch wood* but when you put his medium weights on him am lucky if they are still in one piece the next day.

Will have to have a big rug repairing day i think.
