My horse tends to 'herd' my daughters pony around the field. Pony doesn't seem to mind- only problem is he gets hold of her rug and lifts it, ripping it while he does it. She now has no rugs without tears in them! Does anyone have any ideas how to stop him? Don't really want to separate them as they are at home and they get on really well.

Saw a thread a while ago where someone had that problem, I remember that one reply suggested something that stops pigs from gnawing on each others tails.

Don't know if this is the thread that I read, but Captainmouse suggests a trip to a proper agri merchants to get some anti-gnaw stuff for pigs and put it on the rugs Ripping other horses rugs! what can I do?

Unless my memory is wrong, I've also seen a thread where someone was happy over that she no longer had any rugs ripped since starting to use that anti-gnaw stuff, but I'm obviously not trying the right search words, for the HHO search thingy to find the thread that I'm thinking of.

In cooler months I put a cheap (£40 off ebay!) 1200d no-fill rug on top of thier "proper" rug. That way the cheap one gets trashed and the proper one stays intact underneath (or at least that's the theory anyway! :D)
I've also used Barrier Yum Yum http://www.barrier-biotech.com/product.php?pid=YU which seems to help. The anti-gnaw stuff mentioned above sounds more heavy duty than the Yum Yum though!

Yes I've tried the yum yum spray- didn't seem to work! Like the idea of cheap rug over posh one, might try that next winter. If it ever warms up enough the problem will stop for a bit!

I am on my 2nd can of spray now and its still keeping the big lad off Roley's rugs.
The spray is called scarper and is £10 on ebay, it smells awful but my lad has not ripped a single rug since so well worth the smell and cost.

I had previously tried cribbox spray / yum yum and bittrex spray but none worked.

I hope you manage to get yours sorted.

Ooooh thanks, thats handy to now. I ended up replacing my boys rugs with Rambo's as I was going through a rug about every fortnight! The Rambos do stand up to it though and I havent had to replace a rug since.
