I have a Masta combo rug for my 15h TB mare, she has a high wither and the rug has started to rub her about 2 inch above the wither area into the bottom of the mane. She has been ok in the rug without a neck and this one has sheepskin on the neck area. I am abot to get her a new rug with a removable neck and want to know do rugs with neck covers lie higher up the neck not on the wither area, and does anyone reccomend one that has extra padding to save rubs.? I will be getting a six foot one and budget is £100

would recommend a lycra suit type thing that's designed to prevent aganinst rubbing and is a lot cheaper than buying a brand new rug! Somebody also reccommended spraying show sheen on the inside of the hood but don't know to what extent that actually works.

Ive got a bossy bib over my boys wither rub, seems to be doing the trick - much cheaper than a new rug

Bossy's bibs are great for shoulder rubs but you said this was a mane rub? You could try sewing a bit of satin material (like the bossy's bibs material) in the mane are of the neck cover, I've just done that with mine but it's too soon to tell if it's worked. I've also found that detachable necks are even worse for mane rubbing - but I think it depends on the individual horse and individual rug so that may not be the same for your situation. I think you just need to experiment to find what works for your horse.
