Rug rubbing and vest suggestions!?

I bought a new turnout for my horse about a month ago and although he only wore it a handful of times, it started to rub him slightly.. he hasn't worn it for the past two/three weeks but the rub patch is getting larger and there's no hair there at all now! (and this is now he's wearing the same turnout he's had for a year)
Any suggestions why this is happening? Is it just a case of the new rug setting it off?
Also, any suggestions for an anti-rub turnout vest? I've seen a lot of support for "Bossy's Bibs" but are there any other contenders out there? (Pref. cheaper but if they really are the best option I don't mind at all!)

Bossy bibs work, I have two that are changed and washed regularly. They are worn under every rug my horse wears and she hasn't had a rub in 4 years.
 
I think it'll be bossy bibs, everywhere I look people seem so positive about them!
Buddy the elf - he tends to have his rugs changed day and night (but still, these are the rugs he's had for over a year without problems) and even if they're not changing I still take off, quickly brush/inspect and put back on daily.

^^ Exactly this ^^ But two years for me, prior to that my mare had a bald chest! Bossy's bibs are the only ones that I have found to work. They may seem pricey, but mine have lasted two years, albeit they look a bit trashed, but they still work! :)
 
Used bossy's for years & they are great, I've found identical on eBay called comfy/comfi capes, way cheaper & just as good.
 
Why is your rug rubbing ?
You have to choose the right shape rug for your horse and pref nylon lined as it moves with your horse. Like clothes , the different makes are all cut slightly different. Horseware rugs are great for narrower horses , Weatherbeeta great for average/medium shaped , Shires if you need something abit broader across the chest and Masta for broader still . I always go for nylon lined stable and turnout and never had rubbed chest , wither or hips as the rug moves with the horse and doesnt catch the hair and stick. If your rug is cotton lined it may be whats causing the problem.

You may need to wait a while for the hair to grow back. I found that once the shoulders were rubbed, that was it until the summer coat came through. Bossy Bibs will stop the rubbing but the hair will take a while to recover. You won't have rubs next winter though. It's all about prevention.
