I noticed with my pony that her mane started rubbing when she was hot, so the minute i noticed any rubbing i removed the neck cover... this wasn't until about late Feb early March when it starts to warm up slightly. It saved my pony's mane...

just put her in a normal necked rug, and get used to seeing a muddy neck! but with a mane!
