Hi all,

I'm having problems with my very sensitive skinned 3 year old thoroughbred mare with regards to rugging and it rubbing her. She's currently out 24/7 and has a heavy weight and light weight stable rug underneath - she was clipped earlier this year so needs both. I noticed when she only had the heavy weight on that it had started rubbing her shoulders so invested in a bossy bib as it helped my sister's thoroughbred mare when she had the same issue. However, the rug is still managing to rub her even through the bib. Both rugs are taken off daily and adjusted and both fit her fine.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions I could try?

My Arab is the same even with a bib and I have tried a few different ones, I spray them with coat shine helps a bit with the rubbing, and I often put wonder gel on them everyday as it helps with hair growth, although they are still looking a bit bald, I think its just the way some are built and the sensitive skin issue as my other horse never gets any rubs from rugs or anything else.

Yeah I put on some mane and tail on her today - didn't have any coat shine. Hopefully it should help. Pleased it's not just mine that has stupidly sensitive skin!

I wouldnt use a stable rug underneath, they arent designed for movement. Put another turnout rug on instead, or invest in a good heavyweight turnout

I use bossy bib's for my thinned skinned TB and they work a treat...however I would say make sure that you wash them and change them regulary. I find if i don't sweat and grease builds up on them and then that will rub.
