Pickle has got a couple of small rubs on his shoulders from his rugs. He has never had them before, in 3 years. He has all the same rugs he has always had and they fit him well!

So I was thinking of buying one on those anti-rub vests. Which type is better the quilted type or the satin look ones? Also here could I get an extra large one!

I've used both.
Personal preference is the quilted ones that don't fit as close as the satin look ones but I don't think either are better as such.

Has he changed shape through work and thats why his rugs are slipping maybe?

The best bibs by far are Bossys Bibs. They do one in Super Size which fits my chunky ISH

I used a satin-look shoulder guard a few weeks ago and it was rubbish in my opinion, helped at first and rubbing stopped as his rug did up through 2 loops at the front, but after a week the loopd both broke so it was useless. I then bought a Mark Todd vest that does up with a girth strap and velcro at the side and its much better, it has a higher fit so doesn't slip down as easily. My horse is a m/w 15.3hh and I bought a large that fits well but is a tad too big. I think you can get XL so that should fit your boy!

Another vote for Bossy Bibs - the best. Put some baby oil on his shoulders, that helps.
Even the best fitting rugs can wear a bit on the shoulders at this time of year but try to avoid layers as much as possible (1 thick rug is better than 2 thinner rugs) & try to choose rugs that have smooth/satin type lining. Avoid Fleece rugs as they dont hold their shape and are abrasive on the horses' hair.

he rarely wears more than one rug, so that isn't a problem
