Rug sizes

TBH I didn't even know there were horse and pony rugs in the same size. I just thought that certain rugs were classes as pony or foal rugs due to size and the other were horse sizes.
It may be best to ask the manufacturer of the rugs you are looking at and ask them if they have different fits around the chest and shoulders?
To me a 5'9 rug is a 5'9 rug whether it fits a short coupled horse who takes between 5'9 and 6'0 rugs and a 13'2 to around 14 hands pony which I would assume a rug that size would fit, or thereabouts depending on their chunkiness.
 
Pony ones tend to fit small ponies better. My section a is a 5ft, the horse ones fit in length but hang off her shoulders causing rubs, whereas the pony 5ft is better proportioned and fits her in all the right places. It really depends on the size and shape of your horse/pony as to what you go for :)
 
Really?? you learn something new every day ;-) I just assumed some ranges of rugs went up to 5'9 and some ranges of rugs started at 5'9
 
I was looking at a pony sized 5'9 rug but it has since been removed, was probably a mistake then or else it sold out because it was such good value! Should have bought it when I saw it!
