I'm soon going to be moving out, finally leaving home! Very exciting, but still need to sort a few bits & pieces. I currently store a lot of my horse stuff at home despite my horse being on livery, and just take bits & pieces down as necessary like rugs etc.

All of my rugs are currently stored in bags, in biiig plastic boxes from Ikea. The only problem with this is that I'm a bit worried about security when we move, as all of my rugs will then have to be stored at the yard (we'll have enough stuff as it is to fit into a little flat!). You hear enough stories about tack & rugs being stolen & decent branded rugs seem to have a fairly good resale price - and I can't afford new ones if they vanish!!
So I'd like something that I can padlock really, and is rodent proof (and ideally spider proof but that may be asking a bit much! :p). Only issue is I'm not sure yet how much space I will have to store stuff, but suggestions welcome! It's not as if I actually have that many rugs but a few heavyweights do take up room...!


Aero bubbles might be shared if you can get any before I finish them! ;)
 
I have military packing crates, they could easily be fitted with locks. Mine came from a local army surplus store for £25 each
 
Dunno what theyre called, but the bags that reduce the bulk in everything when you suck the air out with a hoover, ive got some stuff in them and they store almost flat, but pop up to shape when you open them again
 
Chest freezer with a padlock attached to it - you can get some that are lockable anyway.
Not sure where you'd get an old one from, maybe freecycle??
We seem to have millions just turning up on our yard with all the other cr*p, and so I just 'adopt' them whenever I run out of storage!
 
Third vote for chest freezer. I have an old industrial sized one and OH put a lock on it for me.
 
I'd keep them at your parents, personally. I've never kept all my stuff at the yard - and only have up there what's needed. Tack etc. and clean rugs are kept at home.
 
Can't store at 'home' - 2hr round drive just for a rug seems barmy! Plus my mum's house is too small, and my Dad is likely to move at some stage anyway so wont have any storage anyway at that point.
Moving a chest freezer & finding somewhere to keep it might be an issue, so I think smaller lockable boxes will be the best bet. I will look into the military packing crates :)
