i feel the urge to inform people that there is alot of serious amount of rug thefts happening on a night around the bradford area, especially around tong, oakenshaw, east bierley and those sorts of areas. the yard were i keep my horses is the 9th yard to be done in 2 and a half weeks. they took rugs off horses back even ones with post codes on , it was awfull but even the ones that were written on went so now we have all bout combination padlocks and have padlocks our horses ito there rugs via the front straps and surcingles. but when we were robbed some already had padlocks and they have been doing yards twice so if they come back they will no to bring somethinh to get the padlocks off with does anybody have any cheap and effective ideas to help try and prevent these TWARTS from doing it again.

I see what you are saying and I would be gutted if my horses' rugs were stolen BUT if you padlock the rugs on the horse, will this not encourage the thieves to use sharp tools around the horse? I would be far more worried about this

Please dont take offence and i really dont mean to criticize but although i buy new rugs almost every year and they cost a bomb i dont value any of them enough to padlock them onto my horses god forbid but what if one got caught up somewhere and wouldnt rip off for the padlock. Also agree with the comment on encouraging people to use sharp tools around your horses. Do you not think addressing the security around the yard or field would be a safer measure. Guard dog or CCTV? or maybe using crap rugs that none would want to steal.
