I am having sheer murders trying to get a rug that fits my boy!. He is 16.2hh ID x Cob, got 9.5 inches of bone so big strong lad, but gangly, deep girthed but he seems quite narrow still through the rib cage and chest.

These are what don't fit him - 6ft 3in Amigo Mio - long enough but to short in the body depthwise so exposed his tummy and a tad too tight over the rump,
Masta Astex Med 6ft 6inch Middleweight - too long and swamps him round the neck and shoulder but still hangs skew wiff off to one side.

These do fit - Fal Pro 6ft 6inch Heavyweight, and 6ft 6inch Mediumweight Fal Pro, but these belong to my other horse and also they are a bit leaky and getting heaved at the end of the season, they are over ten years old so not sure what style they were, look like the old Rambos though in many ways.
Just looking for a reasonably price middleweight rug that is deep enough and fits well around the neck too, to see the winter out ( he is still growing - I think )

Any suggestions?

If the Masta and Fal Pro fit, you might have some luck with Mark Todd. The one I'm using is quite deep, and its roomy around the shoulders but not huge.

A friend of mine has a heavyweight Mark Todd on her 17.0 ID X and it seems short. As in it doesn't come down his sides like other rugs so he looks like he's wearing a tutu. I find Rambo fit most horses.

Shires tempest (it depends how medium weight a medium weight you want though as they are 180gm) are good rugs! I have the same problem you have with the masta and Amigo and the tempest fits my mare pretty perfectly.

I've currently got a 6'6 MW Weatherbeeta (blue with green straps, no neck) on my bigger chunky one & report of no leaks whatsoever even in the most heavy of deluges, no rubs & she's been in it just about 24/7 since begining of November - with the exception of me being a muggins & putting a HW version on when it went to -11/-14 over a few nights last December. Length/depth is fine too & horse is very deep.
Happy to recco it as she's a thug-in-a-rug & its only got one small tear on the rump where she scrubbed hard on a oak tree in the paddock.

I swear by the Premier Equine Buster trio. I know it seems expensive at £220 but if you go for the whole system then you have a rug for every occassion! (http://www.premierequine.co.uk/acatalog/Turnout_Rugs.html)
My friend had an 16.2hh ID x TB who was quite long and deep and she bought him a 6' 9" one and it fit him really nicely.
My friend and I have a 14.3hh 'Irish Allsorts', 16hh TB and 15.2hh TB x Paint and they all have one!
Hope this helps :)

Thanks all for the reccommendations - seems the Premier Equine Buster range gets most of the votes so thats what I ll go for.
Will be selling a 6ft 3 Amigo Mio Middleweight and the Masta Astex Middleweight 6ft 9in if anyone wants to PM me.
