Sugars rug is a bit too big for her.
If I'm the one to do it up, I make sure it's done up well, and it doesn't rub her.
Try it, and if it causes problems, then you'll have to find a rug that fits.
As long as you can pull it forward and fasten properly without it going anywhere near his withers then it shouldn't be a problem at all.
I have a 6ft on a real 5ft 9 pony, it's about 4 inches too long over the bum but because its a snug fit at the front, it's no problem and doesn't rub at all, just looks like an extra long tail-flap - LOL !!

Dont risk it. A friend of mine did that and her horse ended up sore where the rug had rubbed him, even the best fitting rug will slip so if its too big the horse has no chance.
You say you were given the rug - either sell it on ebay if its in good nick or give it away to someone who has the right sized horse. Don't risk making your horse sore for a freebee.
All Chex rugs are a size too long because when he's fat he needs the extra room around the shoulders. Doesn't cause him any problems, but that could just be his shape.
