Rug vs no rug

I posted a pic on social media of my Welsh A x Shettie unrugged and out in the snow we had last week- with snow on her bum that was not melting. I had to explain to more than one person that she was not freezing and was in fact very well insulated.
Also had someone say my Shettie should have a rug on cos Shetties look so snuggly and cute in rugs...

I have an Ardennes who looks very cute in his PJs, but has a coat like a polar bear. If he was ridden or shown he'd have to be rugged for the mud factor. I'm sure there's some prehistoric reason why a horse feels it needs to roll in fox poo........

So it can smell like a fox...? :D

Our Spanish horses look like bears at the moment too :D
 
There is now concern about so much OVER rugging going on. It is very rare we rug ours, unless like the very old one if they start losing weight then they might get alkight weight.
