Rug Washing?

One of bills light stable rugs is covered in his filth because he rolls in his stable (eww,i know) and I was just wondering if you can wash them at home?
Its just a normal cotton one,but will it matter about the velcro at the front and the metal fastenings?

I always ask the dumb questions....

I shove rugs like that in my machine and they wash no problem. It may be a good idea to put socks or similiar over any metal buckles to protect your machine.

I throw all my rug that will fit into my machine, but as Sarah Jane says protect the buckles, saves your machine !

edit; can you put them in the dryer!?

Dry on the line is better if you can as straps do even more damage to dryer but you can if you want to just make sure buckles are protected.

Make sure that you clean out the washing machine filter afterwards as well as it is bound to be stuffed up with horse hair!

I washed my daughter's pony rug and it came out really wet so I popped it ion the tumble and it shrunk.

Now I hang it on the washing line and do it by hand.
