Hi guys

has anyone got any idea how to stop a youngster from wrecking other peoples rug mainly my rugs ?‍♀️
we have a youngster 4 year old in our field that loves to play and my boys love playing however this youngster is ripping my rugs constantly I’ve gone through 2 rugs in 2 weeks I’m not overly precious over rugs as only buy cheap ones but done want to spend £30 a week on new ones is there anything you can spray on them so when the youngster bites them they taste disgusting

I never found one but I did find iron on carpet joining tape a good, if unsightly, repair as long as the material was still there.

For the first time in a long as I can remember, I currently don't own a rug ripper, it's bliss :).

My horse used to play with a horse who was a rug wrecker, I put a cheap no-fill over the top of his good rugs and accepted that it would be trashed. I would occasionally sew or patch it when it got really bad.

What a good idea. My two are very careful but the other two in the field (one who is 26 and should know better) constantly pull and tear each other’s rugs. I would be pretty peed off if they did it to mine as they both have Rhinos and not cheap to replace.

My friend does this with her 4 Arab geldings and it definitely helps to protect her good rugs! She has also put cribbox on her rugs before now, but I'm not sure I'd be keen on that! My gelding is a rug wrecker but it seems to be limited to pulling off the tail flaps so it's manageable - I just have a whole load of turnout rugs with no tail flap anymore!

Another benefit of this method is that your filled turnout rugs are quicker and easier to dry if it’s wet.

I put Nettex anti crib gel on the parts of the rug the the wearer couldn't reach, e.g. tail flap and top of the quarters and back corners. These are also the areas his companion tended to go for.

I have used Hydrophane Cribox or the Cribox spray successfully with youngsters who thinks rugs are just moving toys.

It must be an Arab thing arabi has ripped a few tail flaps off Louis rugs before and he was a terrible rug destroyer in the past thankfully he does do it that much now.

I used Mustard powder whicch I made into a paste and smothered a cheap rug in for a few days - once they got used to it tasting horrid I put the expensive rugs back on. I didn't want it to be sticky and horrible with Cribox.
