So I have a cob who is blanket clipped, he lives out 24/7, lots of natural shelter plus field shelter (which he never goes in!). Currently in a 50g rug with no neck but with temps in the day getting up to 10/12 degrees C he’s just getting too warm! Could leave him unrugged during day when dry but I can’t always get back in the evening to put rug on. It’s anything from 4-7 degrees here overnight at the minute… any opinions on what to do welcome!!

How clean do you want him? If hes got plenty of weight on and enough grass or hay then he'd probably be ok naked. But depending on your ground might not be very clean ! It's a nightmare these warm days, lovely that it feels like spring but not easy with a hairy cob to manage.

most days not bothered but would like him clean for riding days! He’s got more then enough weight, a little too much to be totally honest!

No fill during the day if you want him clean to ride or a 50g because I agree a lot of no fill rugs are not 100% waterproof.

I have Arab's and I just clipped one left his legs on and half a face and his only in a 100g no neck during the day.

I have a waterproof no fill rug for summer - that might do for days you know you might not make it back up but I think should be ok as long as he has enough food and weight. Could try it once if you're nervous and go up a bit earlier in the morning when it'll still be cool temps and see how he feels behind the ears?

Just a thought - could you find a 1200d no fill rug? I'm not entirely sure such a thing exists, but it might be more waterproof than a regular 600d.

I've got a Shires no fill (600d) which seems excellent, but I've never used it this time of year.

I also have a Shires no fill combo, whuch I've actually not used yet but seems handy to have.
