Hi
This is my first foal so I’m unsure about how much hair they’re really supposed to have at this time!
He’s 3 months and seems pretty unhairy to me
It’s absolutely bucketing lashing here and I’m afraid he doesn’t have the hair to deal with it all!
I never see foals with rugs around me but I’m a worrier 🫣

Unless they’re really ill I would not routinely rug a foal. I think it’s useful education for them to have a rug on at some point, but a healthy foal shouldn’t need one, especially not in August showers!
Thank you 🙏🏻 I’ll try putting one on and off maybe once a day for a while see what he thinks of it

I’d just bring him and mum in during the worst of the weather.
It’s about a 10 minute trailer ride to get them in and they both don’t really love it so I try not to unless needed
They came in for 3 nights in very bad wind but didn’t want to do it for just one night as it unsettles penni.
if the weather continues I will absolutely but it’s supposed to stop lashing today thank the lord

There is a SB stud near us, mares and foals live out all year round with minimal natural shelter on the top of the South Pennines. They have been joined by some cob mares and foals the last couple of years, all seem to cope admirably. I'm sure your foal will be fine.

Oh to add foal at work hasn't had Rug on, he's all okay. They have a field shelter but in their previous field it was natural field shelter

Thanks guys! I’m definitely a worrier so nice to hear so much reassurance that he will be ok 🥰
I always said I would be a helicopter parent 😂
