Thanks for all the help guys
I have been grooming him daily but I always keep it short and light as he’s sensitive to brushes so might try to extend the time with a soft brush
I might just have to constantly keep an eye and fight with this! He likes to keep me on my toes
I’ll try all the suggestions I can and see what he responds to best

You need to use something thats fungal and bacterial when you see rain scald you have no idea without skin scrapes if it’s one ,the other or both so always treat for both .

Buy some daktarin athletes foot spray and spray the whole horse every few days it kills the bacteria that causes rain scald, its better than washing it continuously with a shampoo.

Thing is the bacteria can live in your rugs and brushes and anything else so it's really hard to get rid of it.

Daktarin is an anti fungal .
You need to be clear with issues like this which issue the things you use goes after.

I would be more worried about them getting rain scald under the rug by getting damp/sweaty in warm weather and then not drying off quickly because the rug prevents it than about them getting it because they are not rugged. Horses should be able to cope with rain in mild weather without rugs but only you know what suits your horse best. Personally, I don't tend to use a 0g rain sheet at all. They have skin for that purpose so, unless they also need warmth from a rug, I don't use one.
