Rugging

The weather is very strange of late.
Went to get Meg in and she was physically shivering from the cold!
She's not been rugged up over winter, but had a brief spell in Feb when she was ill.

I'm one of those 'turf em out naked coz they're horses' crew, and felt damn awful tonight because of it.

Meg has been stabled for a while though and rugged whilst stabled so that will make a difference to her.

Other than that, a horse like Meg who has a decent winter coat, good condition on her, fairly fit, shouldn't be shivering in today's conditions so would keep an eye on her!! My guess is that she is used to being in now though so that may be the reason.

:)

All our ponies are un rugged as they were all on the good side of good, bar the donkey who is tubby but doesnt have a waterproof coat as the ponies so she gets a l/w!

Big Grey and Dales Pony are unrugged, and 3 tbs and fjord (fjord clipped) had rainsheets on...but it didnt drop bellow - and its meant to tonight so l/ws go on unrugged and m/w on others.. Ponies prob come in as they just sulk anyway but dont want to rug!

What's your stance on rugging during this weird weather?

I have no idea what to do for the best, I've always been taught that when the rugs come off for Spring they HAVE to stay off. Put the beast back into a winter rug because he's a wimp. Did I do right? :/

Utter rubbish - just rug for the weather we are having at the moment.

I re-rugged one of mine, without hesitation!! It was far too cold for him not to!!

However, the other one was un-rugged the whole of winter so has stayed naked!! hehe! :p

It's a nightmare. My YO is away on holiday and has left me in charge. I have 7 Horses to do (Inc. mine) the 2 fully clipped are in a LW with a MW combo over the top (one drops weight easily) Mine is in a non necked Medium, she is trace clipped and lost alot of hair over March because she started moutling due to the nice weather. The old boy is in his medium combo. The 3YO (who has a slight cold at the moment) is in a lightweigh non necked. The foalies are naked.
