Watching "All the Queens Horses" has make me cranky.
So....
Rugging.
WHY are people posting to ask IF they should rug/not rug, remove the rug, what weight rug?
Do you people not KNOW how to test your horse for warmth?
And if the answer is no then what in gods name are doing owning a horse in the 1st place?

Now I'll get my coat...........

Blimey it has made you cranky hasnt it :D
I do agree to a certain extent. I have posted about rugging but not to ask what to do...just because I was shocked at which one of my ponies was shivering!
I think people sometimes post on here in the hope that people will agree/disagree with them to make them feel better about what they have done?
If either of my ponies are shivering - they will have a rug thrown on.
If they arent - they will be fine.

i've owned TB's that lived out 24/7 365 with only a jute rug and a decent lightweight....

but the real problem is here is that that All The Queen's Horses wasn't about horses at all...it was total ****e

Maybe they are first-time owners and would like to learn rather than bluster through doing something wrong?

If you can't get by with the basics Pookie, then you haven't learnt enough yet to be able to own a horse.
Fortunately you dont fall into that bracket, so post some pictures of your recent purchase and cheer me up......coz I like her lots! :D

Was it bad then? Ive seen loads of reminders or forums and facebook that its on, but IVe not got a tv. Thought I was missing something but obviously not.

(status of horses, unrugged. Currently not getting wet.)

Now then grumpy! :p

I can tell if my horses are cold but I still don't think I should be allowed to own them. Quick, you had better come and take them away and rescue them. They're doing my head in and I don't want them anyway :p :D

(status of horses- both in sheets. Status of weather- warm and rain is meant to stop over night)

I guess I always prefer people to ask and learn, no matter how stoopid the question might seem, than the alternative. It's when it's the same question from the same person, over and over, that riles me...sheer laziness IMO :D

All the pictures I have of her here: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=540156 Will take more, and maybe a video if I can get her doing anything other than graze :D

I'll have Nitty.....stick her in a Jiffy bag would you!

Temperatures are well above zero now, so the only rugs that should be on are fly rugs if needed (IMO), let horses be horses

I have recorded the programme, not worth watching ?

On the rug point, at 6am this morning, after 10 hours of sideways rain, my 3 were all shivering and are now rugged. It's the 3rd of June for heavens sake, poor horses were roasted and frozen in the space of 8 days !

No problem :) BH is being such a dick at the moment though you may find he bursts out of the postvan (smashing it to smithereens in the process) screaming his head off trying to keep her in line of sight shortly after she arrives. That's ok right? :D

You leave poor BH alone!!! He cant help it if Nitty is a rather tasty young lady!

Now I am even madder at him

I went to get him in because he hates the rain and on checking it is meant to pee down all night (see how I pander to him!) and he pulled away from me so OH (stronger arms than mine) got hold of him and he tried it a second time. Put him in his stable and every time Nits went to speak to her new neighbour he was bombing round the box like a tard. He is such a jealous ****. I had half a mind to turn him back out in the rain the ungrateful sod!

Love my Nitty pony though :)

I was quite upset that I missed 'all the Queen's Horses', so you've cheered me up, Joanne.

I agree with you about knowing the basics - the one that took the biscuit for me earlier this week was the poster who genuinely appeared not to know that mares come into season every 3 weeks or so and yet she owned a mare.

Nothing wrong with comparing notes and seeing what other people are doing. Doesn't mean you have to take any notice but it's still nice to know.

How else do you learn but by asking questions? Genuine question? If you haven't a horse do you learn from books because to my mind experience, common sense and people around you that can help/offer advice seems a better way to me. And infact it is the way I have learnt and indeed am still learning.

I don't quite understand why you have taken against such a simple question?

Weather truly ridiculous, rugs off in March, back on in April, rugs off again, we had summer!!
Now changeable again, very cold night, now sun is out and wind cold.

You just have to watch the forecast and take each day as it comes and agree :
All the Queens Horses not what I was expecting--looking forward to seeing her racehorses--properly, her brood mares, meeting the Fell she rides Carltonlima Emma and her Highlands--it just did not happen. An expensive waste of money!

I just love how you didn't get the response that you wanted to the rugging post last night so you decide to have a go on here! Often times I will discuss with others re rugging and I am perfectly competent as I'm sure is the person you attacked last night Joanne!
