Hi everyone, just wondering if any of you have used the ruggles fresha tank discs, and do they work? The water trough at my livery yard gets green quite quickly even with regular cleaning so wondering if one of these discs would help a bit. Thanks for reading!:)

I've not used one but am going to order a couple when they are back in stock for our water troughs. People who have used them swear by them so I figured it was worth a try!

Three troughs in one field, all same type of location and same usage. Two troughs clean and clear - one trough green and slimy.

One trough has a disc - guess which one:confused:

I have used the discs and tried them against troughs without disc found they do slow down the algae significantly but not completely. Apparently if you want to completely eliminate the algae you need to buy the complete trough which is almost £200.00 Ouch!. I purchased my discs from the aquamidas website as they are in stock.

I actually looked into selling the aquamidas ones and got some to sample, they werent the wonder cure i expected, however from what i now understand about them, although the algae forms, the water is generally bacteria free and they still happy to drink the water, i ahve a couple of aquamidas ones left if any1 wants any???

We tried the discs and were fairly impressed, we have installed the new antimicrobial trough and so far we are extremely impressed:). The water has stayed completely clear, but still early days as we only received it on the 20/08. I will be report back in a few weeks if anyone is interested, has anyone else tried the Freshatrough yet? would be interesting to compare notes.

We are having trouble with sweet itch, what is considered the best treatment? Found sudocream fairly good but is there anything better?

Thank you

Algae need sunshine to form so if a water trough is well shaded that should dramatically slow down the development of algae (green stringy weed).

However I have noticed that the horses seem to largely ignore the "nice" clean water in their stables and go straight out to the trough for a drink of grungy water when they are turned out.

I too was interested and applied to buy online and Ruggles came back and said there would be a delay and would let me know when they became available.
I later got an email from Ruggles to say they were no longer supplying these discs ..I think it was something to do with manufacturing .

Hi Sweetwilliam22,
I also bought the FreshaTrough last year, that works really well, I have had no algae or gnats etc in the water. I did use the discs first and I felt that they did help a little, but I have found the trough to be a permanent solution. I would be interested to know your thoughts.

We use them in all of our tanks, some are in the shade some are in the sun, there is not any algae in any of the tanks but the water still goes green after a few weeks, horses are happy to drink from them though.

Not really sure if they make that much of a difference I was expecting to have crystal clear water forever :0) maybe I had too high expectations!

I bought the Aquamidas fresha tank discs from ebay and I swear by them. They've kept my metal trough and a dark plastic trough clean for a year now. Obviously debris still gets in and sometimes silts up a little but compared to how my troughs were before I used them - it's brilliant.
