So, Mary, my 16.3 ¾ ID mare, has been living in my old ex-racer Geoff’s rugs so far. This hasn’t been so bad for the big, good quality outdoor rigs, especially my old Weatherbeeta’s, but her lightweight rugs definitely look a bit like miniskirts even though the length is ok 🙈

Any recs for 6’9 rugs that are deep bodied with plenty room in the shoulder? Shes a big girl.

Pics for comparison 😂

I have a big horse shop broad one, it’s actually slightly large on my 16.2 Clyde x cob since he lost weight. The only thing I’ll say is that it is surprisingly heavy (0 fill with layer system) so be prepared for that. It also comes up long and I wish I had gotten a size down.

I also have a ruggles, which is decent but verges on tight on the neck, and a shires which verges on short on the bum. All 6’9.

Shires Highlander come up longer and tend to fit the bigger horse.
Aargghh - be VERY careful with these now, previously would have fully agreed, we’ve got a store containing over twenty Shires Highlanders, various weights, lengths -
BUT - the latest ones do NOT have anything like the same amount of adjustability at the chest as before. Too bloody tight for the big fronted ones!
Been caught out this season, as have others, and posted exactly what the issue is, on here.
You need older stock, or be prepared to take your brand new rug to a saddlers for extension straps and clips.

I've not bought them for years so good to know I use them on my Arab's and although they not narrow they fit them nicely.

I was looking at the new ones as I need a couple of rugs and I always tend to get the better range ones.

If your looking to flog any that don't fit yours I may be interested 😊

😄 thanks, but the older, roomier-chest, ones are those I need to keep!
A couple of different threads on this, one being ‘help me find a rug...please!!!’, earlier October, no.33....
If you can find any decent Fal Pro Vikings, or Fal Pro Goliaths, grab them, and sorry, won’t part with mine either - just the best.

I like Fal Pro and Gallop rugs for my ID mare .

I bought Gallop for my youngster. Bought the same one for my oldie so they could match, gee whizz you couldve fitted the both of them in the neck area! Far too roomy for mine. So maybe worth a try!

PE, swish or the big horse shop.

The big horse shop one is actually a little *too* big even in the standard width so might worth checking measurements before buying as we definitely could have gone down a size quite comfortably.
