Hi just wondering if anyone can recommend a brand of rug that fits broad shouldered native types? I have a Highland mare and while most 5ft 6 or 5ft 9 rugs fit her in the length, they are too tight around the shoulders particularly if they are a combo. She is 14hh fully clipped and is currently wearing my TB's 6ft combo which swamps her in length and depth

I find the weatherbeeta freestyle quite roomy (well my horse does - for me, obviously, it would be very roomy indeed

My friends cob mare wears Weatherbeeta rugs both the standard landa and freestyle. She also has a rambo wug as he spare rug but it doesn't fit as well across the chest as the others.

Murphy has Mark Todd rugs, they are fantastic, plenty of room and really nice rugs. I haven't found any others that fit him properly (he's also a 5ft 9 and is 14.1hh).

Masta are very good for the chunky cob

mymills, sorry, but your siggy is waayyyyy too long.

My native coloured is 14.2, and is in 6'3" in MArk Todd and Shires. I find that Masta just don't fit her back.

Beware combo turnouts because our Mark Todd is only just fitting around the neck, but is a bit too long in the length of the neck cover - have to fold it back so it doesn't trap an ear.

Agree, Mark Todd's fit my two cobs perfectly. One of mine has an enormous chest.

My ID likes his neck cover too long - if the weather's bad he puts his ears back, head down & shakes until it falls over them! He then spends ages looking like an evil tempered git but with toasty warm ears

. If the neck slips back he just does the same again so it isn't an accident.

Although he's not a true native/cob type he does have a huge front & is very wide. I find Premier Equine & Masta are good fits on him. Weatherbeeta rub him terribly.

my Irish Draft (17hh)can only fit in fal rugs (he takes a full bridle but x-full breastplate to give you an idea of his shoulders)

Mark Todd heavyweight rugs all the way for stable rugs, its the best fitting rug I can find for my boy. Neck rug wise (i'm lucky as he has no mane) i've found that the Shires Chillcheeta Combo hasn't left any rub marks, 3 other horses with manes also have this rug and haven't had any rubs from the neck piece either :O
