I'm planning to do a lot of shopping (esp. at Badders this weekend) for my new boy and I could do with some tips on suitable rugs! He's only small, 15.1hh and 5'9" rug size, but he has a very muscly neck. Can anyone recommend a brand that has a wider-than-average neck that may be suitable?

Here's a pic to show you what I mean:

someone I know with a Friesian swears by Mark Todd rugs, she says they are cut bigger round the neck?
Your new boy is v.handsome ;) and have a great time at Badminton.

Thanks Samcrob, I'll check them out. Would match the MT travel boots that a friend has kindly donated to me! He is lovely, can't wait to bring him over.

Another vote for Mark Todd Rugs - my 15hh Sec D has big shoulders and these come up really nicely on him, they have adjustable straps on the chest too which really helps.

Your boy is absolutely gorgeous by the way :-)

I have a rising 7 year old PRE and whilst I found Mark Todd rugs great in his first year, as I've worked him and his neck has really muscled up they are now too tight. At the moment I would suggest you look at Shires. They seem much more generous around the neck and shoulders and the quality is good.

My 15.1 is in 6'3 rugs (gypsy cob so wide) he and our clydesdale mare have wide chests and large necks. All my outdoor rugs are now Shires as they fit them the best as they have plenty of chest and neck room. My own fault with them is the leg straps are not long enough for mine, so I just take them off and use one as a breech strap which solves the problem.

Hi all

Thank you for the tips! I'll check out MT and Shires - at least it's summer(ish) by the time he's here in a month so *shouldn't* need any super-expensive turnout rugs and can experiment a little...
