Rugs for stallions

Does anyone know where you can buy rugs that would fit a stallion?

I have a 13.1hh - 5'9" Fell pony stallion and I cannot find a rug that fits him!!!!

I have tried almost all brands of rug even one at 6'9" which was obviously too long in the back but just about fit him in the neck/chest.

The problem is that he has such a huge neck/crest that nothing fits him!

I have emailed a few of the major rug companies but have not received any response at all and have all but given up trying to find one. I also cannot seem to find anywhere that produces bespoke rugs either!

Any ideas? surely stallions wear rugs!?

Have you tried some of the cheaper rugs? I know it sounds odd but there are tonnes of rugs on my yard; most are like mine, Rambos, however some of my liveries buy these cheap and cheerful rugs and my biggest complaint about them is that the necks are waaaay too big and the fronts are far too broad for their horses.

Rambos and Fals tend to fit horses that are in proportion, the cheaper makes of rugs seem to make them with incorrect sizing proportions for the regular horse.

Might be worth a shot? Often the unbranded, or tack shops own brands are made like this.

Robinsons own brand are weirdly huge of the chest! Also try Masta Rugs they are pretty huge at the front normally!

Slumberdown and Amigo are often good for thick necks/chests.

Hi guys - thanks for all your suggestions - I have tried Fal, Masta, Amigo, saxon, requisite, omega, worldbeater and weatherbeata so far.

The problem is getting hold of the rugs to try them without necessarily having to buy them, find they don't fit, send them back and try another brand!

I have borrowed to 'try' from people at shows with some of the brands and although they look at me like I'm barking mad to start with, once they see Gabe they change their minds and realise my dilema.

i have a small cob that was cut late, which means we have one hell of a crest and a chest. the best way round this is to buy a rug chest expander you can get them from tack shops and robinsons sell them. this is the only way i can get rugs to fit and i also use the masta brand as they are better for his shape

I was under the impression that FAL were made in the UK and that they would make a rug to measure ? I would try calling them rather than sending an email.

i have the same problem with my boy!
i found a brand which fit him really well infact i brought a size to big cause all his others are so tight
he wears a it on the tip of my tonge!!! begins with an R um um ........ ow what is it ! there cheaper ones give me some clues !

chest expander is your best bet i brought one on equestrain clearance for a tenner about 2 weeks ago.

These are made for the larger framed horse. Also quite a few makes of rug make a chest extender if you think that would work. horseware

Oh ruby good idea however I have one of these QH rugs for one of my smaller QHs and it really was a waste of money

. Substandard in comparison to Rambo rugs, too short and the neck is tiddly; there's no way it would fit any of my big AQHAs so it will be my little QHs rug for as long as it lasts. It's in it's second year and I really don't think it will make it to the end of this winter. Total disappointment.

show jumper line are very good also harry's horse but not sure you can get them in the uk. i have some rugs on mine now but i cant think what make they are i will have to check but they were english it could be shires with a full neck

both Requisite (robinsons) and rheingold are awkwardly large in the neck, maybe one of those?

Some of our stallions wear Mark Todd Turnout rugs whether in or out.
