Rugs, if money was no object, which would you buy

If my horse wasn't such a rug trasher I would get him rambos. But frankly it's not worth the expense for how often I have to replace them.

I've had amigos & really liked them but splashed out on Rambos last year & not regretted it at all. Fabulous & worth every penny.

We always had rambos until they started doing the contoured bottom edge, which meant they weren't deep enough for my ID and TB mares...

Then we moved onto PE rugs. Have had HW and MW ones (the expensive ballistic nylon ones) and are more than happy with their fit and durability. We have just replaced one after 7 years because it was letting in ever so slightly but will still get it reproofed and use as a spare..

I don't find them heavy at all (I'm a 5ft weakling btw) and they certainly don't absorb water when wet..

Can't vouch for the cheaper PE rugs, but we've just got one for the pony, so will have a better idea by xmas...

One of my ponies has PE and the other Amigo, both very good rugs

I saw a great liner system rug at HOYS this year, the Masta Climatemasta, its a 100g combo that can be used as a standalone rug or with liners that fit in more securely than the average liner using a pocket type system and the liners also go up the neck as opposed to being standard neck. They looked well made and good value for money

One of my ponies needs a new rug for the winter and is too narrow for PE rugs and I would have been sorely tempted by this Masta one but I do prefer detachable necks

I'm not such a Rambo fan sadly - you can't fault the durability, the fabric is fantastic, but I find they slip to one side very easily. I think my Mark Todd is probably my favourite, although sadly the horse I bought it for is no longer with us and my other horse is too hot to wear it! It goes right under their tummies, the neck actually covers the whole neck and the tail flap really protects against the wind. Beautiful, beautiful rug. So I would probably have a load of Mark Todd rugs. I would quite like to try a few other brands though, having heard great things about Premier Equine, Bucas and Fal Pro. Although, with my current boy, as long as it's waterproof and doesn't rip easily, then it's perfect. I don't need to spend big bucks on him because he's a toughie.

You might like this rug then, from Maxima Equestrian:

Front fittings are two straps with trigger clips and a choice of rings to clip to, plus the straps are adjustable by a buckle where it joins the rug, so gives you a range of adjustability around the chest. Outer is 1200 denier, lining is smooth nylon, it comes with detachable leg straps and it is definitely a jazzy colour!

Haha that is jazzy! Shame it is a full neck though :(

I'd stick with the rugs I use now, Shires, but I'd have two or three in every weight and every colour and buy new every year just to show off.
