I can't believe I've just had to rug my horses!

just brought my 2yr old connie x tb in for his dinner and he was shivering, until I got him in Feb he'd never had a rug on! I do hope I haven't made him a wimp!

My 27yr old, same breed, was ok but have put hers on too, just in case and have moved them to a field with a shelter! but seriously! ITS JUNE! in 11 yrs, I've never rugged in June!

I know the feeling! I was refusing to rug up my 3 because it's june, until 2 of them came in shivering violently! They now have sheets on when its raining and they're turned out. Good job the shetland's not cold because he doesn't have a rug!

Mine is out in his no fill rug today as he has no shelter whatsoever. It has been raining steadily here since yesterday evening and the temperature has dropped considerably as well. The forecast here is for more heavy rain and winds :(

I was only saying to someone yesterday about it being June and horses are still being rugged. Is this the shape of things to come??

My old mare spent the winter without needing rugs ( unclipped), but has been living in rugs constantly for nearly two weeks.

Where did summer go :(

Tell me about it! I'm having some post and rail fencing done in one of my winter paddocks which has a field shelter.

Spent an hour this morning in the p****** rain putting up electric fencing in that paddock so that I could move the ponies back in as they've only got hedges for shelter in the summer paddock they're in and despite winter rugs they're shivering like jellies!

The tackroom's flooded and it's only the thickness of the rubber matting that's keeping the water out of the stables. Hose pipe ban?????

I'm also concerned as I have 2 natives who should be hardy and they don't have rain sheets and I don't want to buy some either as they are for sale :(

the poor ponies! I've had to put mediums on mine as they were wet still but don't have stables to bring them into!

yeh my shetties were okay, just put some hay in their shelter but they didn't want to go in! little buggers!

Both of mine are in rainsheets with necks and except for the freak lovely weather yesterday have been for weeks!!!! absolutely ridiculous can't believe its june!!!!

Oh I know it's so depressing isn't it! Where is the summer??? :( :( mine are also rugged ergh it's gross ! Hopefully we will have lovely July and august and September! :)

Dreadful weather.. 3 of mine have rugs on, even the little Sec a. We brought her in last week and she was trembling all over, bit scary so not taking that chance again.

If I rugged mine she'd lose half her bodyweight in sweat :p It's supposed to be dry here tomorrow so she'll get some respite (the only difference to her being dry grass instead of wet grass :D)

Both mine are in turnout rugs, the old boy who was clipped because of the very hot weater is in a polywarm at night!! Normally, they'd be naked or in summer sheets in teh middle of June.

There doesn't seem to be any let up either - it's forecast for torrential rain today with us, and for the rest of the week.

I'm cruel! Mine was in a medium no neck turnout during the high winds and rain as she's on an exposed hill 24/7 with no shelter when there's a west wind. Today however I have made her naked despite it pouring with consistent rain. She is warm enough and fat and the real reason is her no fill leaked with the heavy rain last night and she was wet under it anyway! I will however go and check her tonigh and chuck on the medium again if she's cold.

Its mad,isn't....
I am not one to "give in" to rugs, but my nf mare was really cold and shivering this morning,so thatched her and put lightweight rug on. The welsh cob was stabled cos of laminitis, but threw rug on also when turned out,as worried the drastic change in temperature could trigger another attack.:(
Its like the middle of winter- but worse as poor equines have their thin summer coats.

I put a rain sheet on my usually unrugged tb just as although she has trees in the middle of her field she deems them unsuitable to stand under!! Plus my sharer is riding today! I have no idea when this rain is going to end!

Just called in at the yard to muck out, went out to field to check his rainsheet wasn't wet through- he was dry as a bone but v cold! Changed for a 100g full neck which will hopefully be enough.
He looked very sorry for himself!

tell me about it! i was working at the yard this morning - my girls live out i bought them in briefly to change their rugs - they were both soaked through! someone needs to invent a lightweight waterproof rug that can withstand the english weather! my youngster was shivering and the otherone was soaked through - they are both now out in medium weights since we have run out of dry lightweights!!

Have decided to forget its June
It's cold and pouring with rain so mine are fully rugged up like it's winter.
Give it a couple of weeks we will all be moaning about flies and hard ground again :D

I felt so mean when I saw my baby trying to stand under a tree with his back all arched up! my mare wasn't bothered at all, standing in the middle of the field grazing!

I'd be surprised if any light weights would hold out in this weather to be fair! mine both have their medium amigos on! guess they will have to stay in this field for a while then if the rain isnt going to stop, which will upset the shetties!

mine were both shivering this morning too. And Nitty is usually a tough little cookie :(

I don't have a medium weight for her so might have to buy her one. BH is in his 100g today and will probably put his medium on tonight. Nitty lived naked all winter, this is crazy!

Actually, I might just bring them in tonight. They looked totally sick of it this morning and that's without another 12 hours of rain!

Mine are all in their medium weight Rambos again. We turned them out in their lightweight rugs and they all came in with cold ears, looking miserable.

I wish we had a rug drier - with weather like this we need it!

My mare has a rain sheet on but she's in at night anyway so gets chance to dry off. My yearling is on grass livery with other youngsters and is naked. None of them are rugged and he's not worn one yet so he'll have to tough it out. They have plenty of grass and big hedges to shelter behind though.

I have a very useful Premier Equine lightweight with 40g of filling. Perfect for this weather as it's light enough so they don't get too hot but the filling keeps the rain off. I find no-fill rugs just get damp.

Spent the morning harrowing and rolling paddocks that have been churned up over the last few days, and was wearing wooly hat and gloves....

Stayed dry so then went to cut the lawn that has grown the equivalent of 2 weeks in 4 days...

Now peeing down again....all horses out in rain sheets fortunately.

Don't want to depress you guys, but longest day is in only 2 weeks time!

I put rugs on both my horses this weekend as they were shivering but they were in a starvation paddock; they are now in the big field with more grass so I took them off in the hope that munching on grass will provide some central heating.
If not they will be going back on - in 30 years of horse ownership I've never put rugs in horses in June!
