I'm looking to get my boy a lightweight turnout with detatchable neck - budget of about £50.

I can't seem to find any that fit the bill - the closest I have found is the Swish 75gm turnout with detatchable neck.

I have spotted a wee bargin on ebay - no fill lw rug with detatchable neck but I was looking for something with a bit of fill but then wondered if putting one of his lw fleeces underneath would do the job?

Would this work? I've never layered rugs before because I was led to believe that this could lead to the build up of too much heat and also, I've seen plenty of horses standing out with the under rug hanging off or twisted.

Perhaps I'm better just to get the swish one?

I bought an Amigo no fill detachable neck turnout rug last summer (£48 delivered); on colder night I used to put a Weatherbeeta Tri-Star rug liner that attaches to pretty much any rug underneath.

In winter, I layer my horse with a few rugs as he's fully clipped and turned out during the day. I've never had a problem with my rugs slipping or twisting as they all fit correctly.

I regularly layer rugs - as do most people on the yard. Never had a problem with it.

I wouldn't be precious about putting a fleece under a no fill, although surprising how warm they stay under there!

One word of caution - use leg straps - saw a horse this week who's bottom rug had slipped forward and was literally to his nose!

If not all rugs have straps I would clip the top rug to the bottom

Recommend Bucas Irish no fill (bit more pricey bust really last and are properly totally waterproof !!
