I've been itching to take my horses rugs off but although it's getting mild it s supposed to be rainy.

I've got two without rugs today and I'm fully expecting mud monsters this afternoon - but they are shedding like mad and need a roll. Rest of the week looks miserable

I clipped mine to avoid shedding so I'm stuck with rugs (albeit largely no-fill). That said, when it gets to mid-teens the rugs will be off and I will be regretting my actions and struggling to scrape deeply ingrained mud off a clipped coat.

It's still too wet and muddy here they would be covered and it's a pain if you want to ride as mine normally roll just before so they are covered in wet mud.

So it's rugs on for now.

I think it would probably depend on how much shelter you have? I have two fluffy mammoths out no rugs but they have large hedges and a small tree area for shelter.
As long as plenty to eat and good shelter they always warm when I check them

It's on and off really, I'm in Wales and it's been quite wet recently, but when the weather looks good I'll pop the rugs off for a bit! I don't know if it's just me, but mine are all a lot happier out naked. X

Over the last 8 days I've used a 200, 100, 50, 40, rain sheet - and 2 days nekkid for B!
I'm at work so she had to swap from a 200 overnight to a 40 at 6am & has to lump it till tonight.

Looking like a full neck might get dragged out for the coming days, too much wet stuff forecasted, yuk!

Managed to get the wonky PSSM IDx nekked for the first time this year for a blissful couple of hours in the sun. She has to be kept warm. She left a great nest of bay hairs on the grass where she'd clearly enjoyed a really good roll 🤣. The corvids were busy clearing it all up.

She was in her HW turnout last night (frosty) and may well be again tonight.

The breedier non PSSM two coloureds are nekked most of the time now.

We had frost this morning and it’s been chilly despite blue skies. It was lovely and warm last week a day so I left it off after riding and didn’t put it back on. Took over an hour to groom the next day 🙃

Beautiful day here today - I actually managed to get a bit of leccy tape sorted on some of the summer paddocks, I even allowed them on a miniscule patch of summer grazing, it looks like an Emerald jewel so a tad wary for the donkeys but hopefully not enough to cause an issue. Toyed with the idea of rugs off while I was down there, but I have trouble putting them back on without help at the moment, so left them on as son not available to help me yet. Just as well as forecast for tomorrow is back again to torrential rain.

Roll on real summer please.

mine are all naked during the day unless it's lashing down cause I don't want to put rugs on a soggy pony. 3 rugged at the moment at 50-100g (100 for the veterans) only but they're mostly tough native types, plus one arab and one PRE. 3 of them have been naked all winter long, snow included, with small clips. 4th pony only got a 50g rug overnight recently cause I gave her a high trace clip so I could up her work a bit.
