Rugs, quality? price ? does it matter?

Axiom rugs are amazing my 350g one has done its third winter and needs to either re-proofed or down graded to use on dry days only as it has started to leak in heavy rain. Super fitting hard wearing rugs. Last time I checked they were still being made but the UK supplier had given up.

I shall try swish or rugges this time. The important thing is a high denier outer. My old premier equine rugs are 1680 but the newer ones mostly seem lighter so I haven't bothered with them again.

Can you not buy Canvas (I think they were called New Zealand) rugs in the UK? I find them the toughest in a paddock situation, synthetics just rip so easily. In saying that, I have three Weatherbeeta medium fill synthetics (oldest is 4 years old now), that are all still perfectly usable and waterproof.

Grumble pants lives in Shires Highlander rugs though she does have a few combo Rhinegold. The Rhinegold are alright but the buckles go rusty quickly and it cant take heavy rain - does the job for a miserable drizzly day though or if its just cold. The Shires are a few years old now (i went out on a bulk buy when i got her so i couldnt afford anything overly expensive) and certainly do the job; i make sure to never get them professionally washed though and every spring i reproof them myself - thankfully they all still look brand new.
In the past i've had good experiences with john whitaker, amigo and weatherbeeta, they lasted years with very little wear though the fit of them isnt for every horse out there.
One rug i wouldnt touch again though is derby house - they barely lasted a month for me. Recently watched a lady on the yard buy one and after a day her horses were soaked through.
