Just wondered if many other people have this problem?
I have purchased several different makes of rug over the last year and they all have nylon linings. The problem is, when my horses put their heads down to eat, they tend to slip forward exposing their bottoms! The only way around this, is to do the leg straps or fillet string up very tight which I think is too restrictive.
The rugs I bought the year before have a sort of cotton sheet lining and they don't slip forward at all but they don't fit my growing youngster!
I would add that it's not only my horses this happens to as several other horses on the yard seem to have permanently exposed bottoms!

Try to get hold of a rug which is slightly bigger than the one your horse is presently wearing and try that, or one which doesn't fit so snuggly around the neck. When rugs fit snuggly around the neck the horse pulls the whole rug forward when putting their head down. When it doesn't fit so snuggly there's more room for the horse at the front meaning they can get their head down without pulling the whole thing forward. Hope this helps :)

Try the Weatherbeeta freestyle rugs, they have big tail flaps and if you sew a piece of elastic under it then the tail can thread through it, like the Rambos have. Keeps the tail flap down in windy weather.

Try loosening the chest top buckle fastening so it loosens the neck area so they can move more freely to put their head down. The lower buckle fastening can stay where it is to keep rug in right position.

My rugs do fit perfectly and as I said before, its only the one's with the nylon linings that slip forward. It's not anything to do with how tight I have the front straps as when I went to bring Zara in the other day, she had the rug hanging about 18" in front of her chest. They just seem to slide because they are shiny inside.
