Its the Premier Equine rugs that are really heavy, then with added liners , it makes rug changes on a big yard a total PITA! Especially when i’m short and the horses are big! I Would never buy a PE rug. ( not unless you are looking to build your upper body strength) lol!

I don't buy PE rugs but my shires and weatherbeeta rugs are light, I always buy detachable neck rugs because I rarely use the necks, I agree I have 350g shires rugs they weigh a ton, but most very rarely need a rug that thick, I have Arabs they have been in 50g turnout rugs this week and it's been freezing, but they have not been cold! they plenty of hay and they will be clipped soon but horses very rarely freeze to death especially in this country

I'm a fan of the liners. I've never found them heavy and find them so easy to just chuck in the wash and to vary to get the warmth right.

In terms of being a faff to change - I often put two liners on at night and then in the morning I just undo the front strap and the clips of one of them and pull it out the back (probably not to be recommended with a kicker though!). Super super quick and the horse hasn't been stripped naked. In the evening the top rug comes off and the additional liner goes back on.
