I recently bought a heavyweight turnout rug, full neck. However its not really that thick. It is ok for now but when it gets colder I'll need a thicker one.
However i dont know how many grams is really thick and i dont know what denier is. Are they both the same thing? Can someone explain it to me?
Thanks
Nickie

grams is the inner filling - anything over 300g is heavy weight they go up to 450g I think, I'd say 100g light and 200g medium

denier is the outer shell, the higher the denier the more waterpoof its likely to be, i think?

ok, thanks

I've got a Bucas turnout which is 500g, it's fantastic. My 30yo gelding wears it, but only when the weather is at its coldest, he's too hot in it otherwise. I think it will depend on your horse, if he's in or out at night. Mine still have their med weight rugs on at the moment and they are warm enough.

I think the amigo rugs come up quite light (the stable rugs definately do) Riff raff rugs are good value. They are rrequestrian on ebay and the heavyweight turnout with a neck is £48.
