my daughter who is almost 12 years has been competing in unaffiliated dressage (prelim and novice) successfully with my 15.3 warm blood mare. She would like to have a go at affiliated level but I'm struggling to find the rules regarding junior members. I have emailed our BD region rep but not has a response. She also has a 12.3 pony which we are trying to sell but ideally we will just share my mate as my daughter is tall and I don't really want to buy another pony that she will outgrow quickly and need to sell in. So my question is: can she compete on a horse at afflicted level? Does she compete against adults at normal BD competitions? Would be interested in any other relevant insights! Thanks for your help.

Hi,
In BD juniors compete against seniors in the same class (i.e. no split classes on age). The only time age comes in is at FEI Pony, Junior and Young Riders. BD do have a system called BYRDS for riders under 25 which organise training and camps as well as competitions (BYRDS Inter-regionals, Home International and Sheepgate Under 25 championships). Its a really good system to progress as well as meeting other young riders interested in dressage.
