Run over by a horse- how to handle from now on?

What a horrible thing! Definitely wear a hat and bp too (a friend nearly died after being hit in the liver by a horse in the field) and yes a whip. If it comes to it the horse will get a stinking good crack with it!

Yep, if there is any chance of going splat, wear your battle gear.

Shadowdancing, please get yourself to your GP or Minor injuries! I got run over by my horse last July and it took me 4 weeks to go to the doctors. My horse weighs upwards of 800kg and was doing around 20-25mph when he flipped me over the water trough - it's like being hit by a car and you would get checked out if that ever happened to you! I've ended up with an ongoing neck/shoulder problem that still causes me pain 14 months later because I didn't go to a&e straight away where they could have diagnosed a partial subluxation of the sterno-clavicular joint (kind of dislocation of the collarbone) and got it back on track before it became a real issue.
Human safety has to come before anything else on a yard! Wear a hard hat, solid boots and if you want to carry a crop do so. And if you're not in direct sight from the yard or if no one else is about keep your mobile phone in your pocket. I am usually the last one on the yard so frequently do these things when my horse is out with others that I don't trust.

This! Everyone that examined me after I went splat was shocked that nothing was broken. I was, however signed off work for 2 weeks with very painful periosteal bruising & various aches & pains.

Get checked please!

OK guys I will call the doctor today. My tummy is a bit sore so may be worth a check, and that odd click in my neck is unnerving. Promise. Thanks for pushing me to I'm sure all will be fine but will give my BF peace of mind if nothing else!

Owner of the mare said mine must have been chasing her but yard owner has been bulldozed by the same horse in the stable so is aware of what she's like.

what a horrible reaction from the owner, i'd be furious. If it had been my horse that ran someone over i would be absolutely mortified.

Well I was a bit surprised particularly as I tried hard not to apportion blame (I know it's awful when people say your horse has done something and you weren't around to intervene- you feel responsible or at least I do) and said that she came through the fence and spooked mine so both horses went over me. I told the yard owner the truth via a private message asking her not to repeat in full as didn't want to cause stress but I didn't want the young grooms (apprentices) to go unwarned.
