would be great to hear anyone that runs a yard- I need to find out about laws on running a riding school- insurance- tax ect if there was an instructor running a yard having full liveries teaching on there horses and his own horses what legislation is he required to be covered by, would it need to be a certified livery or riding school as he is a free lance instructor teaching on own horses... would any accidents be covered under limited personal and friend use insurance? and who would be responsible for checking this/being reported to if this was a problem - Any help would be great :D Lots of cookies if you got through that ramble :):p

ok here goes....

If like you said he is teaching people to ride on his own horses, then it should be classed as a riding school, so in order

you need to put planning permission in for change of use to allow use of being a riding school, they will look at traffic and entance and exits to the yard

you then need a riding school license, they will look at health and saftey of the yard, horses and tack etc

after you have them, you need riding school insurance itself as you will need to cover public and you add your liveries on then

expect alot of out goings

thankyou! and do you know who is responsible oofting out unlicenced ones, and would the tax man be involved because its currently being classed as a residential home no buisness licence, unless it has run over from the previous owners? would you have to apply for this with every new owner? it was previously used for competition livery and I know had to bend backs to get the entrances allow for a buisness because there were alot of grumpy locals not liking thumping great lorrys going through the village every weekend going out. :D

when you say tax man, do you mean the 'tax man' or business rates?

if you mean business rates, the likely hood is that they will be contact if the last owners ran a business from there.

you can't get insurance without a riding school license
