Hi
I have run a couple of Music Competitions over the past couple of years. Recently I heard a whisper that the Venue needed to have a PPL Licence.
I searched and searched the BD website but found no info at all (we're not talking riders music membership and Licences here)
I googled it but drew a blank.
Yesterday I phoned BD direct. Yes indeed I do need a Licence at £104.27 per event! Add to that a PRS Licence though they couldn't quote for that.
I explained that i would get 5-6 entries at £8-10 each, the licence would stop us putting on the competition, they agreed the fee was prohibative.
I asked if this was something BD was looking into? They are not and didn't really seem that bothered or interested.
I pointed out that I have been to several 'grassroots' music competitions and have never seen a Licence, possibly because don't know they need one? BD said they might put a 'link' on the website - to what exactly I'm not sure!
It was suggested that we affiliate the venue then it would be free - I don't own it I hire it for about 8 hours a year!
I felt BD had no interest in their 'grassroots' members but surely they are the affiliated members of the future?
I have now emailed PPL Licensing and explained everything to see if we can bring the fees down enough to allow us to run, but am still awaiting a reply.
Has anyone else been through all this?
Your thoughts please!!
Cheers
