Most evenings we have a little bit of a play before heading of to the stable. Armas loves nothing more than to run jump. His little buddy Hersus the shetland is tethard at the moment as he has become a bit of an escape artist.
This evening Armas decided to run rings around us both.
At the end of his fun he trots over to me and the three of us walk back to the stable me leading Hersus and Armas just follows behind :)
Its now just over 2.5 months since he had his SI injections he seems to be in fine form what do you think ?

i think he looks to be moving so much better, much looser in his movement behind and flowing more, he is tracking up much better too.

i try not to be negative on your posts as you do seem to get a lot of flack, i understand why you have to stop the shettie escaping but tethering him whilst armas is loose looks like an accident waiting to happen and the shettie would be much safer if he was wearing a padded tethering collar rather than a head collar. it illegal to tether in a head collar over here now due to the associated risks.

My god, that horse just adores 'being' doesn't he? I think that's why we love them so much. What other animal puts up with so much and then carries itself with such dignity, pride and humility?

You are brave to post considering some of the stick you get.

He is looking just magnificent and doesn't he know it! He is such a character.

Yes - for the shettie a tethering collar and a stake with a swivel top and ideally chain with many swivels in it and away from the trees. I know you are probably around and supervising alot, but not worth risking either Armas or Hersus getting injured.

Thank you for all your comments. I have two ropes connected to the tree one is tied to the tree but slack second rope swivels around the first rope reasonably freely. Great way of cutting the grass around the trees !
Hersus is not always tethered just when Armas is free to roam and play and not in his enclosure, as then Hersus is free and does not try to make a run for if Armas does not follow as he leads Armas astray. Electric fenses just don't keep the shetland contained

Hersus has learned the limit of the tether does not run against it now. But I am always mindful and never tethered when I am not home keeping an eye on him.
When I take Armas away from home Hersus is stabled, so I can rest easy and know the little guy is safe and not escaping ! Hersus is very much the boss mind you he still has his nuts were as poor Armas does not ;)

Thank you for the ebay link I shall order one.

I have a very fine 10hh falabella x pony - Barney - in my siggie strip. Being so tiny I have always had to be ultra careful with him on grass as you can probably imagine.

Well I decided that he would best be tethered and that way I could easily limit his intake of grass. I hate muzzles with a passion. So I had a saddler make him a bespoke collar. I went to great lengths to get a safe metal stake with a swivel top and bought so many metres of chain and put swivels at intervals. I got Barney accustomed to the chain (or so I thought) and then the day came I tethered him. Well if it hadn't been so serious it would have appeared comical to the bystander. Barney decided to gallop full pelt to the end of his chain  There was nothing I could do and the inevitable happened when he reached the limit. He was ok thankfully, but that was it for me and tethering I couldn't stand the stress.

Beautiful as always and I think the amount of free schooling he does really helps him physiologically.

It took the Shetland a few days to get used to it but he learned he stops before the limit of the rope most of the time !

I think the ability for Armas to be able to run free is very good for him. Mind you for the most part he stays near his tiny bossy buddy :D

He really is quite fabulous isn't he. He's not my kind of horse, I'm not into PREs, but I still appreciate that he is an absolutely stunning horse. I quite like the dinky one too, but that's just my soppy old age creeping in and taking over.

What a lovely video :) He looks fantastic.

Would you mind me asking, what the piece of music over the video is please? It's very beautiful.

Beautiful horse, he looks full of life and vitality.

I am a bit taken aback at your tethered Shetland and your comment about him most of the time stopping before the end of the rope.

I really think you should sort your fencing out properly before you resort to tendering, there is no reason that Shetlands can't stay behind electric fencing if its installed correctly. Is that the fencing you have up along the driveway?

That video was so magical...the horse, the environment, the music. At one point, I thought I saw a horn in the centre of Armas's forehead!

Armas looks stunning although couldn't take my eyes off your lovely tethered pony. I'm not a fan of tethering, it really worries me that they'll injure themselves.
