Have decided i am going to admit defeat with Holly and put a standing martingale on her. She has this really nasty habit of flinging her head into your face when she doesn't get her way so much so that sometimes i can see the blaze on the front of her face all the way down to her nose. (This is not something she just does when being ridden but she has a habit of flinging her head around when you are handling her from the ground too.)

So if i used a running martingale i'd put the two rings on her noseband wouldn't i? Also how long/short should it be?

Should be adjusted so that with her head in a "normal" position you can lift the "spare" into her gullet. ie you are not strapping her head down, you are preventing her throwing it up dramatically. Lunge her in it first in case she has a panic that she can't get her head up - not normal but it's just possible.

buy a standing martingale, they are set to be used for that purpose.

if you dont get one, attach the rings to the cavasson, and if fitted properly, the slack should tuck into where her throatlash is.
