My gelding is pooing normally but passes fluid too which runs right down one leg. We have tried pink powder, hayledge balancer but still no joy. Can anyone recommend anything they have tried which has worked. He is currently having a worm count done too....

I have already contacted my vet, they are doing the worm count they said try adding bran to his feed which has not worked... So I thought maybe someone on here may have some ideas....
Thanks goldenstar I'll have a look at Protexin on the web, many thanks.

Have a look at the thread on the first page of this forum... "Gassy scouring mare..." There are some good tips in there.

Have your vet runs some test on him??? its all very well doing a worm test - you can do that yourself but tell them you want a visit and get them to run a number of test.

Bran is an old remedy which does not often work. It could be a number of things

Here is the H&H site which stores previous H&H members advice and tips.
There is threads on this subject under *D*

I've recently had this problem with my mare and in the last couple of days it has completely stopped after finally finding a solution. In her it was definitely down to the spring grass. What worked for her:

-Swapping from haylage to good quality hay
-Adding Yea-Sac and peppermint to feed

It took me quite a while to find hay that was as good quality as the haylage I used to buy but this has made the world of difference. Completely dried up and back to normal after a few days on hay!

Hi there. I did a thread on this very subject not so long ago. It was my daughters little Irish pony, he had exactly this problem and as he is coloured, we really were desperate to get it sorted. Like you, I had tried everything apart from charcoal, this was to be next on my list but then a miracle happened! I say miracle, but really it was a terrible time. He got kicked quite badly so was confined to barracks for 2 weeks and to keep him occupied, one of the things we did was give him a treat ball with some him hi fibre cubes in it and bingo! His bottom dried up within a day or two. He did have a course of anti b's for the leg so whether he had been harbouring a bacterial infection that they cleared up I really don't know. All I do know is that he barely ever has any liquid now running down his lovely white legs and we are not having to wash twice daily any more. We only give him it twice a day with 4-5 coffee mugs in it and that appears to be enough. It's worth a try as they are not expensive to buy. Good luck with finding a cure for it, it's a horrible problem I know!

Thank you to everyone for your replies, after some research I have decided to give Protexin a try. I have ordered quick fix and gut balancer. Can I feed his normal feed with the quick fix and then the gut balancer??
