Both my horses have had loose droppings for a few days which I have put down to the warm/cold weather or change of hay, so not overly worried. But today one had bout of the runs with undigested chaff in. Bit better tonight. Have started sand out for a week in case it's sand ingestion but should I give probiotic too? Worming up to date and no obvious stress. Any suggestions? Thanks folks.

My sister's horse (15hh cob) had very loose droppings & gas following a change of hay. Vet recommended 6 tbsp of bog standard natural yoghurt mixed into feed for 10 days. After a few days of this his poo is lovely (well as lovely as poo gets :p)

My pony had the same after a change of hay. I put 1/2 a large tub of natural probiotic yoghurt in his feed daily and it cleared it uo within about 2 days x

Another vote for Pink Powder as that's what I've used with great success in the past :)

I suspect any of the suggestions may help though - I've never thought of giving yoghurt before, might be worth starting with this as the cheaper option!

A few years back one of the leading irish studs tried out all the various yoghurts on scouring foals and discovered that cheap own brand fruit yoghurt was just as good as natural probiotic etc etc. They tested the bacteria in the lab as well and came up with same result
