Sorry folks! Not a nice topic but I need some advice please. My chap has yet again got a case of runny bum. Its not his poo though, just an excess of poo coloured liquid that comes out after. Very unpleasant! He goes for weeks without having it and then it suddenly reappears. Anyone out there with a similar scenario? Had loads of tests done before to the tune of a £2k vets bill and everything comes back normal. Any advice welcome!

All ours get this to a greater or lesser extent. We put it down to time of year and haylage and coat changing and any other excuse. It always goes by itself and doesn't seem to cause any other problems bar the odd dirty tail or fillet string. Never lasts for more than a few days at a time, max. How old is he?

He's 9 and always looks very bright and well. It generally disappears after a few days normally but he's had it for a couple of weeks now. We had our field topped before he went on to it, so I am hoping that its just the grass

My boy has this on and off all the time! The vet said it was normal just the liquid excrement and not to worry, just a big pain as he's a grey so leaves some lovely stains!

My mare used to get this ocassionally - I'd put her on a course of pink powder by Naf. I'm sure it was called pink powder, but they do one or two which are meant to help. They used to help her and didn't cost too much, about £15 for a tub which is all I ever used.

I have a similar problem (well my horse does!!) My vet recommended codeine phosphate and I now have him on 2 x 60 mg tablets a day and it's made such a difference. She said you can safely go up to 10 a day.

What fibre digester did you use? I've tried the Diareze from Global Herbs and although it helps it didn't put my chap's poos entirely back to normal.

If the poo's are forming properly and the correct colour, the horse is not loose, he's in good condition and you have not made any sudden changes to his diet then I wouldnt worry too much, my horse gets like this sometimes when the grass changes, although its pain in the bum because looks like he'd going to poo and but spurts out green water (only a bit though)...accompanied with smelly f*art...which then runs into this silver tail, yes very nice!!, specially when your picking out his back feet, I'm sure he times it down to the T!...then he looks round at me and I'm sure he does it on purpose! ....hence a week of tail washing but then it stops, he's had it about 3 times this year so far, each time lasting a week.

Ok enought talk about poo...*moves swiftly along to another subject*

Hi Astra, I use the Equimins Fibre Digester, its in a 1 kg white pot with a red lid, the last tub I bought was £18/19 and has lasted longer than it says on the pot. Its brill stuff, its really helped Melly, I wouldnt be without it now. x
