ok...so I'm not that experienced with horses...and have bought a pony and his eye is always runny (a clear liquid), and has what seems to be 'sleep' in the corner of his eye....(when I say 'sleep' I mean that similar gunk in the eye that we get on waking....not sure how else to describe it...)

I used to ride a friends 14yr old Sec D pony for 3 years, and she always had a runny eye, it was a clear discharge, no swelling, just leaving a trail from her eye...she had a 'sleep' type gunk in the corner of her eye, but the clear discharge was there most days...and the 'sleep' was there most days...used to wipe it away with a cloth.

I had a 15yr old Sec D on loan for 2 years...not once did he have the clear runny discharge...although he did have the 'sleep' in his eyes now and again....

I have now bought a 15 yr old Sec D...and everytime I bring him in he has the clear running discharge from his eyes, which I wipe away, but no swelling...and most often the 'sleep' type gunk in the corner of his eye...

With these 3 experiences, I'm just not sure what is normal???
I have the vet coming in January for his vaccination, so will query then, unless people think it's more urgent?

out of 3 horses I've had long term experience with, 2 of them have had this runny eye with clear discharge (almost like tears)...so is this normal? should I be getting the vet out ASAP? is it something to be concerned about?

Most of my experience is to do with other peoples horses...now I have my own, it's different...am I over worrying about nothing??

If people want a photo, I can try and get one....

Horses eye shouldn't be constantly running, but there seems to have been lots like it this year.
If it mainly clear & eye doesn't look red I'd just bathe twice a day with cold tea, sorted my mares eyes out very quickly.
If it persists / gets more guncky then vet.

The sleep in his eye could be conjunctivitis which can be treated by eye drops from your vet. The weeping eye could just be a blocked tear duct. My horse had the same thing, you can get the vet to fix that too - I think they flush it through to unblock it? Its nothing serious though :)
