Hi

My 21yr old mare has had runny eyes for a couple of weeks now, seems to both of them and they mainly run when sunny/windy.....

I have called the vet today and they are coming out tomorrow they say it could be an a blocked tear duct...

I'm overly paranoid about my mares eyes since she had an eye ulcer last year.. I'm paranoid she has uveitis :(

She does not seem to be uncomfortable, she is pootling round the field with her chums and getting angsty at feed time as per usual :D

Anyway I don't really know the point of this thread is just want to get it off my chest!

Does anyone have any other ideas what it could be?? Allergies maybe??

Looking forward to the £60 call out fee tomorrow ;)

My pony has had a runny sometimes itchy eye on and off for a few weeks ago. Had the get out and she couldn't find anything - she gave me sone eye cream to put in for 5 days and I'm now keeping a fly mask on every day x

My ponies eyes run periodically, normally when windy. As mine do too and its not constant I don't worry.

Please ask your vet to check for eye worms. These can live in the tear ducts and cause damage that could result in blockages. I have just had to have one of my horses checked for this as his eyes were always running. These little blighters are making a comeback in this country and are spread by flies. A friends horse was diagnosed with eye worms last year following an ulcer on her eye. Treatment is relatively easy and inexpensive if detected early, panacur 5 day wormer.
