Ruptured Peroneus Tertius Tendon, anyone with any experience?

Hi, I had a mare 14 years ago that did this. She did 8 months box rest, and I was told at the time by vets at the Dick Vet to use the smallest stable I had, and she only came out of her box for absolute essentials. She did the injury in the February (I think - it was a long time ago) and we put her in foal in the April - travelled her to a stud that did AI which wasn't common that long ago, with strict instructions she was not to be "exercised" at all. The vets said she wouldn't take a normal covering because of her injury. Anyway we followed the vets instructions to the letter, after 8 months she went into a stable sized pen in the paddock which was made bigger very, very gradually, and then she went out in to the paddock (which was about 1/4 acre).
The vets looked at her when 9 months pregnant and they couldn't tell she had had the injury from trotting her up. She weaned the foal and was brought back into work very slowly. She went BS showjumping and then passed a 5 stage vetting. The last I heard of her was she was hunting twice a week sidesaddle!
The one thing that we were told initially was she would not like the box rest, but once she had got over the initial stress she would be absolutely fine - she didn't know how long it was going to be for, and also that if we followed the vet hospital instructions she should be ridden again.
We still have her foal, although she is now out on loan.
Good luck!

Interesting and good that the outcome was so positive, I am thinking of taking one on that has done this recently and had never heard of it before. I have just spoken to the vet who diagnosed the horse, he said time and rest is required but thinks she will return to full work and is worth giving a chance, he also said that once in work she should go through vetting with no problem, so I will go and have a look and probably give her the time she needs, soft touch:rolleyes:
