Has anyone uses Rural Insurance for equine insurance and can advise if they are any good. I've always used NFU and currently with SEIS but my renewal has increased even through I've never claimed in the past few years. Rural Insurance has come in cheapest but i have not heard anything about them before. Thanks

They are a large farm and commercial insurance company based in Harrogate, N Yorkshire. Equine insurance is just a small part of what they do and they have been doing it for years. Perfectly legitimate company - I used to work for their biggest competitor. I can't recall who their insurance is underwritten by these days though but it will be one of the large, well known insurers. I don't know if you've got your quite via an insurance broker or if they have an online facility these days. My advice would be, if through a broker make sure it's a broker who has some understanding of horse insurance. To many, it's completely alien!!! :D

Thank you very much. I got the quote through a broker which was Four Counties - again I haven't heard of them. Rural Insurance website looked familiar but never came across them for Equine Insurance before.
I've used SEIS for the last few years and its just gone up so thought I'd have a look about.
The cover I need is just for a 2yo who lives out and does nothing but can't risk not insuring him - mainly for vets fees if any thing did happen.

Also the girl at the broker seemed to be very good. Whereas the NFU representative I spoke to didn't know what I meant when I said he was a skewbald! 😕

We use them to insurane horses they are fantastic - Last year we lost a horse it took just six weeks for the claim to be settled in full!! I would recommend every time we use Equestrain World insurance as the broker - they are great too and keep you informed at all times :)

Four counties are really good and very helpful. My sister lost her horse in a freak accident and she had only just insured with them, they paid up without any questions.

I've now just discovered Animal Friends is even cheaper. I use them for my dog but again have never claimed but also never had problem.
Anyone have experience with them on th equine front?
I have read to avoid E&L and that Animal Friends is no longer part of this group.

Know nothing about Animal Friends but check who they are actually underwritten by. You are better really if the insurer is one of the larger, well known companies (ie RSA, Allianz etc). Just remember, once it starts to get too cheap you have to question how good the cover id. You get what you pay for and all that!

As and aside, Four Counties insurance brokers know what they're doing and it means, should you have to claim, you have experienced insurance people fighting your corner as well!
