After putting out the horses I noticed Ozzie my JRT was on three legs. He was holding his right hind up and out and when he did put it to the floor it was his toe only on the ground.

I called the vets who fortunately had a spare appointment, so I took him straight down.

In the car he wouldn't even sit down, just held his leg u. I carried him in and held him till it was our turn.

Put him on the table and he was at least now putting his foot to the floor (even if he still wouldn't put any weight on it).

Vet started to examine him and then told me come round and have a look at his leg from behind.

I feared the worst, went round and looked and............

...........there stuck into his foot between his pads was a inch long thorn!!!!

Vet had a good laugh, I went very red and Oz was back to himself right after the vet pulled it out!!!

Oz has some antibiotics for a few days (but I have a feeling that was just so I didn't feel a complete plonker!!!).

So the moral of the story check the whole leg before you rush to the vets (even if it is your special little man)!!!! The stupid thing is if it had been someone else's dog, or my horse I would have checked the foot 1st!!!

Oh and vet only charged me £10 (probably due to the entertainment I had provided). Think I made his morning!!!

I know, but felt I got off lightly with only a £10 charge (which included the antibiotics).........I was expecting it to be nearer £30!!!

I know I'm such a twit, but he is my special little man!! Had a really bad morning was late to horses as alarm didn't go off, power cut last night and the battery in my alarm that is supposed to keep it going on such occasion must be flat!!!

Could have been worse, someone I know called the vet out to their horse and it turned out all that was wrong was that he had a stone in his foot....... they didnt get off so lightly with the vets bill though!!!
