I've never been one for fads and the like. But I have to say it is making a slow but amazing difference to both me and my horse.

I have just come back to riding after 3 months off for ankle surgery and thought if I was going to make the change it should be now before I get impatient and go back to the old way.

I had my first lesson 2 wks ago with Denise OReily (lovely lady)

I was worried that I would not like change BUT felt with things the way they were I wasn't getting any further forward no matter how much I tried. So decided it was now or never.

The different way of riding is at first a little awkward and I keep having to stop to get my new position back. However for those few strides it is so worth it., Now it is those few minutes rather than just seconds

The biggest differences are that I feel far more secure, and my horse really likes it!! I can finally rise to the trot and stay up there for several strides without wobbling, when I come back down into the saddle it is so much smoother.

I have always had problems with my right leg coming up in the canter, Denise pointed out that it is a tight muscle (Psoas) causing the problem, so now I have something to work on to help solve it

Of course it did help that she loves my horse too :D Mind you he was a complete saint while lesson was going on, next to the school the builders are using all sorts of cranes lifting huge things with flapping polythene on them, diggers and all sorts coming and going and he didn't even notice, bless him

excellent - so pleased for you :) Denise is my instructor too. She has worked wonders for me, its been a struggle for me as i am bit 'crocked' - what with having disc removed from spine and my shoulders that are constantly painful due to inflammed tendons. She has a wonderful manner and I just wish i had found her earlier.

I do think that biomechanics really do help people - It is so 'wierd' to begin with as you sit so differently to how you are used to - (for me I felt like she got me leaning forward so much = however watching video back i was actually upright for a change!!!! - I was so used to hollowing back to protect spine and lean back)

Biomechanics is the way to go in my opinion!! - and I am off shortly for a lesson with denise this evening!

Those first few lesson in RWYM are the really amazing ones. I'll never get bored seeing rider (and then horse) transformations :)
I have some photos from my own lessons 1 - 5 (then i had my babies so stopped, but want to start again soon!). You'd never believe it was the same horse or rider.
I think its an approach you either 'get' or not. Bit of a leap of faith but it really does pay off.
So glad its working for you - your post sounds so positive!
