Hi all,

I realize that there has recently been several posts on boots, but am thinking about getting some Ryedale 'Malham' boots. Has anyone had these or know anything about them?

If so, what is the sizing in the calf like? I've had some of the old style Dublin river boots for the last couple of years and they have been worn to death and so i think it is time for them to be replaced. The only downside of them is the fact that the calves were huge and completely slip down my leg and wrinkle whenever I wear them.

Is anyone aware of boots of this style with a slimmer calf fitting to prevent the same happening?

Thanks,

X

I looked at Ryedale Malhams at Badminton last year and decided against them. They were a bit of an odd colour, not the same as they they look on the website and were too big. I am only a size 3 shoe but have bigger calves. I got Tuffa Sufolks in the end and I love them! They are a year old now and still look lovely. You can adjust the width to fit your calves.

Mine were a bit generous in the foot and very tight around the calf with regard to the colour they go a nice brown with nic wax, and they were never capable of standing upright from new! Rydale dont claiim them waterproof and mine wernt even though they are allegedly lined with rytex top to toe but i dont think it goes under the foot and the water gets round underneath the lining same with toggi Hamilton boots and welligog sloane boots 3 pairs of welligog sloane boots returned for leaking (claimed Waterproof). I have just had a pair of Toggi Hamilton boots (claimed Waterproof) exchanged for leaking in the same manner, I think they are made in the same factory as the Welligogs. also the sole on one Malham boot started to split away at the outsole flex point but I would say quite good value for money, better than dublin River Boots. Save up the extra and buy Dubarries and look after them properly.

I loved mine, although it was years ago when I had a pair, I would say the calve is pretty standard, I don't have skinny calves but not hide either and could fit my jeans in without being too tight.

I have welligog rangers and they are waterproof but wider on the calf so would probably not suit you. I tried the Malhams at Burghley but didn't like the colour of tbh the quality so bought the welligogs instead.

I bought the Malham boots of their website christmas 2009. I bought a size 6 (my normal size) They sent me a boot which fitted my boyfriend whos size 11... They said that there must of been a sizing mistake when labling them. So they sent me another pair which were ment to be a size 6 again, one fitted, one didnt, we measured the sloes and there was 1 and half inch diffrence between the boots!

So i bought some Toggi ones from an ebay shop for £85, they have been perfect. 18months laster they dont leak, fall down or smell. The sloes are starting to perish and i thought that they would give up quickley but they are still hanging in there. I have used them to walk long distances in through water, grass and mud. They have mucked out countless stables and stood in urine and muck for hours on end some days. I think iv cleaned them once or twice... and they still dont leak!
