I love my stubben 3000 bridle but i am now starting to do a little more jumping and would like to use my english grackle but find changing the parts hassle.

I want to just use the stubben with flash for schooling and hacking and have another bridle for jumping in so i can leave the martingale on and use a grackle ( i prefur these to flashes ).

I have a unbranded lovely english grackle so just want to buy a nice quailty head and cheeks and padded browband to make a complete jumping bridle.

What is the sabre leather like what i have seen its soft and supple and looks like lovely quailty but does it last and weat well?.

My other question is doe anyone have a comfort headpiece ( where the noseband passes through the headpiece and passes back under to stop pressure at the poll ) and does it raise behind when being worn.

Does anyone know is sabre sell these design head piecec as i cant see them on the website?

I have also seem some lovely kirkland leather work at ingatestone and would be interested to hear on views on this brand too?

thanks

Sabre, in my oppionion and many others, is the BEST bridle maker on the commercial market.

The leather is soft and supple, lasts for literally decades and if it is treated well it looks brillient at any age. (My bridle is 15 years old now and looks brand new)

IMO I agree that Sabre USED to be the one of the best but I dont think much of it nowadays. A saddler told me that Sabre isnt what it used to be. Ive got newer Sabre Event Reins on my old cheap Jeffries Wembley bridle. The reins cost nearly as much as the full bridle and look terrible and wrinkly, the Jeffries budget range bridle looks almost new in comparison.

Not keen on jefferies had one once that stretched and the leather bobbled and it cost a lot too.

I just want a really nice head and cheeks oh and browband that will be used at home and out and look smart.

I cant really comment on new stuff, I had a pair of sabre continental reins about 18months ago and there perfect.. But as I said my bridle is old.

I liked the look of a holiday liveries Albion Bridle, it was lovely and soft but they are so expensive. Ive just won a Dobart bridle on Ebay that looks nice and soft but dont know how it will wear.

I have 3 Sabre bridles 2 doubles for comps and an everyday bridle, they are beautifully made with lovely leather even my everyday bridle comes up great when its clean, i buy direct from sabre they do a very good postal service.

I've recently bought a bridle from Sabre which is lovely. I've always had Jeffries bridles in the past which have lasted really well.

Re the comfort headpiece - I don't think Sabre make these as their comfort bridle has a different design. Jeffries make them (about £40 though, I think - Rideaway stock them).

I made my own for one horse using a leather hole punch and a fairly substantial headpiece. She was getting rubbed behind her ears (not my horse, so I wasn't going to buy it a new bridle). I just punched a slot in the headpiece and threaded the noseband strap through. It was quite a tight fit so didn't move at all. I imagine you could get a saddler to make one for you if you can't find one elsewhere.

i have 7 sabre bridles, some older, 2 I bought last year, still very good quality in my opinion. I have a kirkland one too, and that has worn really well, and comes up like new when cleaned. Not keen on jeffries, but just my opinion.

Very happy with 2 Sabre snaffle bridles (one Dortmund snaffle and one normal snaffle) and one Sabre double bridle.

I've always bought Sabre on the basis that its easy to mix and match parts should you want to change nosebands/replace a broken part etc...

Recently I've found no-where actually stocks any of the individual parts anymore and every time you want a new noseband/martingale/whatever, there's a small order charge plus postage on top of the price of whatever your buying. My bridle with all its alternative parts probably cost double what it costs buying a whole bridle. I've also found their customer service less than impressive.

I've avoided changing to another leather, as I said I like to mix and match, but I've had enough of Sabre and if I ever need another bridle, i will be turning to Jeffries as they also sell parts which are more widely available.

You can buy direct from Sabre which might be cheaper if you are looking for individual parts of a bridle. I recently bought a bridle direct from them as I needed some parts in full size, and some in cob size. They were really helpful and the price on the website included p&p - it arrived the next day.. Might be the cheapest way to get hold of things

I bought Buddy's bridle from my saddle fitter.
It is a full bridle - but you can always have a spare flash noseband then! Personally, it is one of the nicest noseband I have ever seen, but each to their own.
You can see it on Buddy here:

The flash is concealed actually under the noseband, and it has a comfort pad behind the jaw (like doubles back on itself). Throat lash is adjustable on both sides. Comfort head piece. I really rate it.
You can read all about here: http://www.suecarsonsaddles.co.uk/view/Bridles/
see what you think

I have the sabre cordoba and it is brilliant. My expert saddle maker rates sabre as THE best, and thinks its wrong to even put jeffries in the same bracket at sabre.
